At AVE Santa Clara, the Community Garden is about more than growing fresh produce. It reflects AVE's longstanding commitment to service, sustainability, and empowering residents to make a positive impact.
Created in partnership with Move For Hunger, the Community Garden features a dedicated garden bed where fresh produce is grown for donation to local food pantries serving individuals and families facing food insecurity. The initiative builds on AVE's more than 10-year partnership with Move For Hunger, reinforcing a shared mission to reduce food waste and increase access to nutritious food. With more than 47 million Americans, including 1 in 5 children, experiencing hunger, initiatives like the Community Garden help address a critical need by providing fresh produce to local food pantries.
The garden officially launched with a resident planting event on Earth Day and continues to bring residents and team members together throughout the season. From planting and tending the garden to participating in harvest days, the initiative brings neighbors together while supporting an important cause.
The garden is home to a variety of vegetables and herbs, including snap peas, lettuce, basil, squash, carrots, rosemary, sage, and green onions. As the crops mature, the harvest will be donated through Move For Hunger to local food pantries, helping provide fresh, nutritious produce to those in need.
