When Mitchell Cannold’s mother turned 100, he and his wife knew they wanted to be close by. The longtime Pound Ridge homeowners found the perfect fit in a three-bedroom apartment at AVE Hamilton Green in downtown White Plains. Westchester Magazine opens its look at the county’s growing luxury apartment scene with their story.
Their new home is full of light. Floor-to-ceiling windows with smart transitioning technology brighten the apartment throughout the day, and walk-in closets offer plenty of storage. For Cannold, an investment banker, media executive, and film and television producer, the biggest change has been how much easier life feels. With maintenance in the hands of the AVE team, he and his wife have more time for what matters most.
The couple has since purchased land in Bedford and is planning a new home, but they are in no hurry to leave. Cannold shares that friends have encouraged them to stay put, and he’s inclined to agree. He calls AVE Hamilton Green a wonderful next chapter, praising its modern, fresh design, fantastic amenities, and terrific people, and admits that staying long-term is very tempting.
Their experience reflects a wider shift across Westchester. Local real estate experts note that empty nesters are ready to trade the upkeep of a large house for a lifestyle that feels like a true step up. Young professionals and growing families are drawn to new communities as they settle into the suburbs. The experts point to beautifully designed amenity spaces, which rival the living rooms of the area’s finest homes, as what wins people over. White Plains sits at the center of it all, with nearly 3,500 new residences built or approved downtown.
The magazine also highlights 5 Cottage at AVE Hamilton Green, where quartz countertops and backsplashes and an impressive collection of amenities leave a lasting impression. For residents like the Cannolds, it all adds up to an easier, more connected way to Live Better® in the heart of Westchester.
