Cooler mornings invite more time outdoors, local festivals fill the calendar, and seasonal flavors return to restaurants, farms, and community gatherings. From colorful trails and pumpkin picking to live music and cultural celebrations, each AVE region has its own way of welcoming the season.

Here are some of the best ways to enjoy fall near AVE communities this year.

Center City Philadelphia

A fall weekend in Philadelphia can include everything from an afternoon festival to an outdoor meal or an evening performance.

On September 26, the South Street Fall Fest takes over eight blocks with live music, food and drink specials, local craft vendors, immersive art, a pumpkin playground, and Oktoberfest activities. The Philadelphia Fringe Festival offers another way to experience the city’s creative side, with theater, dance, comedy, film screenings, and immersive performances taking place through September 27.

The season continues at the Navy Yard on October 3 with the PAWS Mutt Strut. Residents and their four-legged companions can enjoy a scenic walk, live music, food trucks, a beer garden, costume contests, agility activities, and opportunities to meet adoptable dogs. The haunting atmosphere continues throughout Sleepy Hollow, where lantern tours, immersive experiences, and performances bring Washington Irving’s famous legend to life.

Phoenix

In Greater Phoenix, fall marks the return of comfortable evenings and more time outdoors.

The Arizona State Fair brings rides, concerts, fair food, animals, exhibits, and live entertainment to the heart of Phoenix from October 1 through November 1. Open Thursdays through Sundays, it offers the familiar traditions of fall with a distinctly Arizona setting.

Downtown Gilbert also celebrates the season during Harvest in the Heritage District, running September 25 through November 1. Immersive art installations, seasonal flavors, merchant specials, live events, and the Great Gilbert Gourd Hunt transform the neighborhood throughout the month.

October brings one more community tradition to Central Park. The free Children’s SpooktaClara Halloween Party takes place on October 24 with trick or treating, carnival games, crafts, music, and more for children ages 10 and younger.
