What is a Design Specialist at AVE?

Design Specialists at AVE are talented and artful interior design professionals that are responsible for managing the sensory experience at our luxury, flexible-stay residential communities. Design Specialists play a hands-on role in conceptual development and liaise with stakeholders to manage and execute designs. They take full ownership for all interior design and re-design activities related to our luxury furnished and unfurnished models. They also oversee all property photo shoots from a design perspective and collaborate with the Marketing team for all interior design imagery. Successful Design Specialists enjoy building relationships with property teams and are abreast of design trends in each market.

This position will report directly to the EVP of Asset, with accountabilities to the Suite Operations & Design Manager. They will have a home base property at one of our communities in the Northern New Jersey area, with travel to other AVE markets nationwide on an as requested basis.

You will thrive in this role if...

  • You have a passion for the design process. You love to interpret and translate the property's vision into dynamic design plans. You are passionate about setting the perfect tone by considering all sensory elements including the look, feel and smell of the community from the leasing office through the tour path to the model.
  • You can analyze movement and use patterns of space to create designs that will serve the room's purpose and offer the desired aesthetics. You assess the requirements for each space and determine optimal decoration and furniture placement according to their size and use purpose.
  • You are inspired by locations and design trends. You want to research and follow industry changes, evolutions, and best practices by visiting marketplace competitors and staying connected to top design trends in each market.
  • You enjoy showcasing your talents. You will collaborate with the marketing team on photo shoot execution from a design perspective for all interior imagery.
  • You are a people person. You will have the chance to build relationships with property teams through regular on-site visits and assist with all ordering and delivery for furniture, accessory, and design needs.
  • You value organization and meeting deadlines. You will manage vendor relationships and find creative ways to stay on schedule and on budget. You will track project spend and timelines.
  • You hold yourself to high standards. Our communities and team members, on and off the property, exhibit the highest level of professional and presentation standards.
  • You are a fast learner. You must be willing to learn and use industry tools and programs.


  • An educational background in interior design.
  • 1-3 years' interior design work experience.
  • Hospitality, travel, relocation, corporate housing, or multifamily industry experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with CAD is preferred but not required.
  • Must have reliable source of transportation for required property visits and team support responsibilities.
