As medical esthetician at Body+Beauty Lab, Amia is responsible for skin consultations, treatments, and inventory. Although she will tell you, providing exceptional service and “making people feel good” are the most important parts of her job.
Q: What is your hometown?
A: South Jersey, but I live in South Philly now, about 2.5 years
Q: How long have you been a medical esthetician?
A: I’ve been a skin care esthetician for 12 years and medical esthetician for 4 years (medical involves more advanced procedures like chemical peels, body contouring and laser removal).
Q: When did you start at Body+Beauty Lab?
A: A little over 2 years ago. I started at the Chestnut Hill location and moved to Body+Beauty Lab when they relocated to The Franklin Residences.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job at the spa?
A: I love seeing results and how far my clients have come…that is by far my favorite part. I have consistent clients that keep coming back, and that’s very rewarding to see my book of business evolving.
Q: When did you know you wanted to work in this industry?
A: I was a makeup artist before becoming an esthetician. My skin suffered from acne before, so I wanted to work in a field where I could help people find ways to purify their skin and see results.
Q: What was your proudest accomplishment at the spa?
A: Building up a clientele – I’ve come such a long way since we opened in February 2018!
Q: What are your certifications?
A: Laser certifications, micro-needling (mechanical pin to create collagen), cool sculpting, ultra-shape and vela shape, and chemical peels and derma planning.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being an esthetician?
A: When my clients are happy and see results. I find joy in helping people reduce their insecurities and boost their self esteem.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do in Philly?
A: I love going out to eat and trying new restaurants! I also enjoy going to the different festivals in the city.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?
A: I enjoy sketching, listening to music, writing poetry, and watching movies!
