In September, during Hunger Action Month, AVE proudly celebrated a decade of partnership with Move For Hunger.
To commemorate this milestone, AVE launched the 10 for 10 Campaign, with a goal of raising $10,000 in honor of 10 years of partnership.
Residents and team members across all 18 communities were invited to participate in the sweepstakes for a chance to win free rent, complimentary airfare for two to one of our communities, or paid time off — all while supporting the mission.
We are proud to share that we exceeded our goal, raising more than $17,000 — enough to provide approximately 70,000 meals to individuals and families in need across the country.
AVE joined forces with Move For Hunger in 2015, when Lea Anne Welsh, President of AVE and COO of Korman Communities, met Adam Lowy, founder of Move For Hunger, and immediately recognized the opportunity to make a positive impact together.
Adam, who grew up in his family’s moving business, founded Move For Hunger after witnessing how much food was discarded during moves. Determined to make a difference, he began collecting non-perishable food from those relocating and donating it to local food banks — collecting more than 300 pounds of food in the first month alone.
Since then, Move For Hunger has expanded its reach nationwide, partnering with moving companies and multifamily communities to combat food waste and hunger. With Move For Hunger’s support, AVE has rescued over 30,500 pounds of food and provided 25,883 meals to those in need.
“Ten years of partnership with AVE represents more than just donations; it’s a decade of community, compassion, and leadership,” said Adam Lowy, Founder & Executive Director of Move For Hunger. “Their teams have helped us turn apartment communities into engines for good, proving that when people come together, small actions can make a big impact.”
Move For Hunger continues to play an integral role in our operations. Through this partnership, residents can donate unopened, nonperishable food upon move out, ensuring that no food goes to waste. In addition, our team members regularly organize food drives and volunteer throughout the year to support the fight against hunger.
