AVE PARTNERS WITH MOVE FOR HUNGER

09.11.2015

AVE is excited to announce its new partnership with  Move For Hunger .

Move For Hunger is a non-profit organization that mobilizes the relocation industry to fight hunger and reduce food waste. They work with companies across North America to collect unwanted, unopened food from people who are relocating and delivering it to local food banks.

"It just makes sense, and it feels good," says Lea Anne Welsh, president of AVE, on why AVE partnered with Move For Hunger. “We specialize in temporary housing, so our residents are transient. We offer fully equipped kitchens, so our residents do buy food and cook while they stay with us. Sadly, a lot of that food gets thrown out when people move. "

Move For Hunger founder and executive director Adam Lowy founded the organization for that reason. His family owns a moving company in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He grew up around the trucks, working at the family business as a teen and firsthand how much food was thrown out when people moved. Today, Move For Hunger works with more than 600 relocation companies across North America to deliver that food to those who desperately need it.

"Nearly 50 million people in our country are affected by hunger, and yet almost 40% of food produced in the US ends up in landfills," Lowy says. “We are thrilled about our partnership with AVE. By collecting unwanted, non-perishable food items from their residents, we can work to reduce these staggering statistics.

September is Hunger Action Month. Each of our communities will be hosting a Resident Food Drive party with food trucks and live entertainment, while collecting unopened, non-perishable food items for Move For Hunger. Twenty AVE team members will also be participating in Move For Hunger's  2nd Annual Jersey Shore Truck Pull  this Sunday, September 13th at 2 pm in Neptune, New Jersey. Teams of will to pull a moving truck, competing for and moving money to benefit Move for Hunger.
