East Bay, California

04.26.2022

Ana Sotolongo

“AS SOMEONE WHO WENT THROUGH THE RELOCATION PROCESS THREE YEARS AGO, I GET GREAT SATISFACTION HELPING RESIDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO THE AREA, FEEL AT HOME. I HAD SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE WHEN I STAYED AT AVE WHILE RELOCATING TO THE BAY AREA, THAT I BELIEVE IN OUR PRODUCT AND NOW I CAN PAY IT FORWARD.”

As Regional Operations Manager for AVE Walnut Creek and AVE Emeryville at Bay Street, Ana is responsible for supporting the overall operations at both communities to ensure they are operating at the highest level. She manages partner relationships on all asset projects including renovations. Ana works directly with the housekeeping and maintenance teams, supporting them with inventory management and delivering first-class resident services. She also is responsible for monitoring the financial operations for both communities, and directly processing accounts payable and rent collections for AVE Walnut Creek.

Q: What is a typical workday like for you?
I start my day by checking the sales reports to see how we’re trending toward our goals – this informs my conversations with the rest of the team. Then I meet with our Maintenance Manager, Resident Services, and Housekeeping teams to check on projects, work-orders, move-ins, etc. just to make sure we’re on schedule and to see how I can support. I send the Rent Collections Report and then follow-up on any outstanding items. I check in with our VP of Operations for the West Coast and our Business Development Manager on rates and availability for bookings at both properties. Then I address any payroll and time-off requests.

Q: How long have you been working in this industry?
I have been with AVE for three years. Previously, I worked in retail management.

Q: What do you love most about being a part of the AVE team?
AVE really is like a family – and not just at the property level. Everyone from our leadership team and throughout the organization is so supportive and generous with their time. It really makes a difference to feel like you are part of the family and very much supported even though you may be 3,000 miles away.

Q: What is your favorite amenity or service at AVE in the East Bay?
The rooftop at Walnut Creek is a go-to for barbecues!

Q: What is your hometown?
I was raised in North Bergen, New Jersey.

Q: What is your favorite hobby and why?
My husband Juan and I are always looking for and trying new places for brunch or dinner.
I also love my plants – I currently have seven and they are all named!

Q: What is your favorite spot in the East Bay and why?
We recently started exploring the Lafayette Reservoir. It’s nearby, beautiful and has all kinds of trails for hiking with our dog Charlie. We even bought a backpack, so we can carry her when her little legs get tired.

Q: What are 1 or 2 fun facts about you that we might not know?
I love visiting museums and learning about local artists and history. We have been lucky to visit museums in San Francisco, Oakland, Monterey and Sonoma that have helped us learn about California’s rich history. I love to bake and find it to be therapeutic, but I don’t really like to eat any of it. It’s good though, I promise. I played the Clarinet all through grade and high school.
