AVE hosted a School Supplies Drive in August at its four communities in New Jersey in partnership with their local REALTORS® Association Boards to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help underprivileged children receive new school supplies for the 2018/2019 school year.
Donations poured in from our very generous team members, residents, and partners, resulting in more than 1,000 backpacks, binders, notebooks, calculators, crayons, pencils, rulers, scissors, and more to be delivered to students from K-5 throughout New Jersey, so they can be set up for success.
“A mother, I know first-hand that starting the school year with the necessary supplies promotes learning, boosts self-esteem, and helps kids get excited for their first day of school,” says Danielle D’Amore, Resident Representative at AVE Union. “I did some research and learned we had this opportunity with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I introduced the drive to my colleagues, and everyone was eager to be involved.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America was beyond thankful for the donations.
“To many children in non-struggling families, a backpack filled with school supplies is just that. To children who live in struggling homes, these donations are not only received as exciting and useful gifts, but as a sign that people care for them. It's so incredible to see so many people in our local towns, communities, and businesses coming together in a united cause to bring Joy to the less fortunate,” says John Peterson, Youth Program Supervisor for The Boys & Girls Club of West Orange. “We don't think about this as often as we should but we need to be thankful, every day, for the things that we have and the lives we are able to live. Collecting donations and distributing them is a simple feat and we thank you for this. Keep up the good work of bringing Joy to children and their families by showing that you care! A little love goes a long way.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America has a clear and important mission – to enable all young people, especially those in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
